Always try to keep challenging yourself: Sunil Bhaskaran to Tata Steel Scholars


    Jamshedpur, June 25: Words of wisdom and encouragement lifted the spirits of Tata Steel Scholars whose two-day meet concluded at Tribal Culture Centre (TCC), Sonari on Sunday.

    Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice-President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, had a lively interaction with Tata Steel Scholars and encouraged them to push their limits. Always try to keep challenging yourself. You must always benchmark yourself against the best in the world,” said Mr Sunil. No matter how arduous the goal is, be persistent and never give up, he added.

    The importance of striking a balance between work and life was underlined by Ms Mita Singhal who said, “You all should make an all-out effort to pursue your passion, but don’t forget your fitness in the process. It’s an integral part of life”

    A total of 70 Tata Steel Scholars converged at TCC to attend a two-day meet that began on Saturday. Tata Steel Scholars Programme offers mentoring support along with financial assistance to the poor SC/ST students who make it to some of the country’s top-notch institutes like IIT, NIT, TISS, XIMB, etc.

    Prof Madhukar Shukla of XLRI Jamshedpur called upon the Scholars to consider “longer time horizon” for setting goals. “Majority of our decisions are based on short-term objectives. You all should look beyond short-term objectives and set your goals taking into account a longer time horizon” said Prof Madhukar.

    `Why Depressed, Come De-stress’, a session on busting stress and depression was also conducted for the participants by Ms Harshita Biswas, Assistant Clinical Physiologist, Tata Main Hospital (TMH), Jamshedpur. Mr Hemant Gupta, Senior Manager, Adventure Programs, Tata Steel, who climbed Mount Everest recently, also interacted with the participants and motivated them further with his story.

    Mr Biren Ramesh Bhuta, Chief, CSR, Tata Steel; Ms Urmila Ekka, Head, Tata Steel’s Tribal Cultural Society and Ms Vinita Prakash, Head, HRM, Tata Steel were also present on the occasion.
