Jamshedpur: A delegation of All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) members met the deputy commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum, Amit Kumar, and demanded government bodyguards for Chandragupt Singh, central secretary of the party and father of gangster Akhilesh Singh.

Led by Swapan Kumar Singhdeo, the AJSU leaders handed over a memorandum to the DC and demanded arresting of the assailants who had fired on Chandragupt Singh a couple of days ago. The party leaders alleged that police had failed to nab the culprits even after 48 hours of the incident. They said police should immediately provide security cover to Chandragupt Singh, who is also a former cop. Among those who met the DC included Rajendra Kumar Singh, Kanhaiyya Singh, Saantosh Singh, Mahmood Ahmad Baba and M Mallick.

Meanwhile, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of East Singhbhum Anoop T Mathew today claimed the police was very close to nabbing the culprits in the firing incident at Sidhgora. He said investigators had got CCTV footage according to which the role of Sarabjeet Singh Chhabbu and his associates is highly suspected in the incident.

Chhabbu, a member of Paramjit Singh gang, rival of Akhilesh Singh gang, had tried to kill Akhilesh Singh on the Jamshedpur Civil Court premises on 24th May 2014. Akhilesh had then accused Upendra Singh, a former transporter, of having sent Chhabbu to kill him. Upendra Singh was shot dead by assailants in the Court last year.
