AJSU activists gherao Raj Bhavan against crime, power crisis and corruption


    Ranchi: Police resorted to lathicharge on hundreds of All Jharkhand Students Union(AJSU) activists on Wednesday during a massive agitation programme to gherao the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday in favour of various demands related to law and order, food safety and basic amenities including electricity and roads.

    Cops first fired tear shells on the mob of AJSU leaders, activists and supporters and later took help of water canon to disperse them at the venue close to the Raj Bhavan. Despite police action, the protestors kept proceeding in the direction of Raj Bhavan. Eventually, cops charged canes on the mob. Several AJSU activists were injured in the lathicharge.

    Security around Raj Bhavan was beefed up in view of the agitation programme. The roads leading to Raj Bhavan were barricaded to keep the demonstrators away. Many AJSU activists reached very close to Raj Bhavan.

    Police officials said Section 144 was clamped around Raj Bhavan yesterday keeping in mind the agitation programme.

    The AJSU leaders said their major demands pertained to the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, bandobasti of sand ghats, growing corruption, poor condition of electricity supply and roads, delay in implementing the Food Security law, due honour and facilities to family members of Jharkhand revolutionaries and the demand for a CBI probe into the killing of AJSU leader Tileshwar Sahu.
