Aim to become a zero Fatality Company: TV Narendran to employees

Jamshedpur, April 20: The Closing Function of the World Steel Safety Day and Fire Safety Week was held today at the Steelenium Hall inside the Tata Steel premises. T.V.Narendran, M.D Tata Steel India and South East Asia was the Chief Guest and R. Ravi Prasad, President, Tata Workers Union, was the Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, T.V. Narendran, said that our aim should be to become a zero fatality Company and for this to happen, support of all employees was needed. He said that this was a unique opportunity for Tata Steel to become a benchmark Company and for Jamshedpur to become a benchmark city for Safety.

He added that it was important to share knowledge regarding Safety issues across all locations so that people could benefit from the experience of others. Each employee should do things which are within his control like wearing helmets, and own Safety as an individual responsibility also. R. Ravi Prasad spoke on the involvement of Office Bearers in the Safety campaign.

He complimented the Safety organisation on making films on Safety and stressed that it was important for these films to be seen by all employees.

These films should be put on the Company intranet he said. B.K. Das, Vice President, Coke, Sinter and Iron, Tata Steel who was the Special Guest on the occasion, spoke on the dimensions of Process Safety and how contractor’s employees were provided with awareness on Process Safety aspects.

Uttam Singh, Chief Blast Furnaces, gave a list of activities held during the week including Flag hoisting at Fire Brigade, Best Process safety Improvement Projects – by IIT Trained personnel, Firefighting and rescue management competition among ERT trained, Program on Fire Safety at home: Housewife, Community safety, Fire safety audit in school, Quiz on Intranet- Process safety, fire and disaster management, Process and electrical Fire Hazard Hunt competition, Training on effective use of Fire extinguisher amongst contractor employees, Works level Mock drill and Process Safety Exposition at Steelenium Hall.

Awards were given to the winners of the competitions held during the World Steel Safety Day and Safety Week. The function also saw the release of Communication Pack on Gas Safety & Emergency Preparedness and a book on ‘Process Safety Exposition’. Debashis Das, Chief Manufacturing Long Products, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
