Ranchi, Jan 3: Chief Secretary R.S. Sharma today suggested modifying the mechanism of door-step delivery of food grains of the Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme. He also suggested adopting smokeless chulhas for cooking of MDM.
He was speaking at a meeting of State-level Steering Committee of the scheme held at the Project Building with Human Resources Department officials.
The Chief Secretary asked to maintain a balance between accounting, supply chain management, cooking and other factors related to MDM and to streamline it.
Human Resources Department Principal Secretary K. Vidyasagar at the meeting presented the objectives, management structure and approved size of programme for 2013-14 of MDM. He stressed on improved hygienic practices through education in terms of hand-washing, safe drinking water and other health benefits for supplementing this scheme.
Chief Secretary directed the Committee to instruct district officials to monitor the food supply system in the respective districts and report the problems at the headquarters. He said that the payment system of para-workers in the state to be delivered through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Principal Secretary, Rural Development Department , Shri Arun, Welfare Department Secretary Shri Rajeev Arun Ekka , Jharkhand State Education Project Director Smt. Mamta , Social along with other officials were present at the meeting.
