Abducted manager of Bank of India in West Singhbhum released


    Police detain two suspects

    Jamshedpur, July 28 : A gang of unidentified criminals abducted manager of Bank of India’s Gua branch in West Singhbhum district, late last evening, but he was released in the wee hours on Friday. The manager, Ashish Gupta (35) returned back to his home safely. The criminals had demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh by calling the bank’s cashier.

    According to information, the police have detained two suspects and recovered bikes, including that of the bank manager from near Panchmukhi Temple under Gua police station area after the victim was recovered.

    Deputy inspector general (Kolhan) Saket Kumar Singh said that the manager was abducted at on Friday and was released today.

    “We are investigating the incident, As per our initial probe the manager who stays at Manoharpur, , had left his office for home at about 6 pm.
    When he did not return by 8 pm, his usual time of reaching home, his wife called him. In response, Gupta said that he is still in the bank as he has to get some pending work done. By this time, the manager was already in the hostage of the abductors, but lied because they had forced him not to say anything about his abduction to his family members,” said Singh.

    The senior officer said two bike-borne criminals had abducted the manager. After abducting him, the criminals instructed the manager to contact the bank’s cashier for knowing the volume of cash at the bank as he needed Rs 15 lakh for some urgent work.

    According to the DIG, the cashier came into action and contacted the deputy manager, and after calling back to the victim he sensed trouble.
    “The cashier and deputy manager sensed some trouble for manager because the victim had asked them to bring Rs 15 lakh and come to a specific point near the Panchmukhi templeInstead of following the instruction, they had informed the police,” said the DIG.

    He said it took about two-three hours for setting up a police team, because the police did not know much about the gang of abductors. When the police team reached near the Panchmukhi temple they found the victim standing under a tree. There was no sight of anyone else around. It seems that the criminals ran away after watching the police.
