65 year old shop owner shot dead at Telco colony

Jamshedpur : A 65-year-old man was shot dead by bike-borne criminals in front of his tea-stall at Telco Colony under Telco police station area at the dawn today.The victim, Shiv Prasad, who is a resident of Zone 1-B in Birsanagar was preparing to open his shop.

Though there was eyewitness of the shooting, a woman who was putting `rangoli’ in front of her house around that time said there was two bike-borne youths who had stopped near the tea-stall when firing was heard.

The police have recovered an empty cartridge from the spot after the victim was rushed to Tata Motors Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in an hour.

Officer-in-charge, Telco thana, Jayant Tirkey said that at about 5.20 am, Prasad was found lying in a pool of blood in front of his tea-stall.

” We are investigating the incident. A Tata Motors private security patrolling party which spotted the old man rushed him to the Tata Motors Hospital.

As the condition of the victim was serious, the doctors on the emergency duty shifted him to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where he succumbed to his injury in an hour,” said Tirkey who had been to the spot.

Tirkey said that there was no immediate reason behind the murder of the old man who was struggling to earning for the family of four by running a tea-stall.

“As per the initial probe we found that there was no enmity of this oldman and that those who shot him had come by a bike. There were two bike-borne youths who had stopped near the tea-stall, though no one has seen them shooting,” explained the officer-in-charge.

The police have recovered the body and have sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.
