50-year-old man killed in road mishap, residents block NH-33

    Jamshedpur, Nov. 3: Traffic on NH-33 remained disrupted for more than two hours this morning as a section of local residents of Mango set up blockade at Dimna Chowk on theNH-33 protesting a fatal road mishap in the locality under MGM police station area early this morning.

    A 50-year-old man, Gangadhar Parmanik died after he was hit by a speeding bike in front of his shop near Suman Hotel close to the MGM Medical College.  

    The victim who would run a hair-cutting salon was cleaning the way in front of his salon was injured and subsequently taken to the medical college hospital emergency immediately, where he succumbed to his injury in an hour. The rider fled from there. 

    Officer-in-charge, MGM police station Anuj Kumar confirmed that a bike-borne youth had hit the 50-year-old man.
    “We are investigating the incident, the bike, which was without number plate was coming from the Dimna end of the road at a break-neck speed and hit Parmanik, causing him to fall on the ground.

    The victim was a resident of Jaipal Colony.  The mishap took place at 6.30 am and the victim died at about 7.30 am.

    The residents had reacted sharply and set up a blockade on Jamshedpur-Dimna Road  in front of the MGM Medical College demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation.  

    After keeping the Jamshedpur-Dimna Road blocked for two hours, the protestors had shifted the venue of the blockade at Dimna Chowk on the NH-33 at 9 am, intending to make the protest more effective. 

    At the Dimna Chowk the blockade continued till 11.30 am and it was lifted only after sub-divisional officer, Dhalbhum Alok Kumar paid Rs 30,000 as compensation to the family.

    “The administration paid the compensation as the victim belonged to a weaker section” said an official. 

    A long queue of trucks, trailers and other mode of vehicles had been made as the vehicular communication came to a standstill due to the blockade.  Commuters had to suffer immensely.
