Over 4,000 fitness freaks participate in Yoga at Gopal Maidan

Jamshedpur, June 21: Well-known personalities like Bidyut Baran Mahto, MP, Jamshedpur, Amitabh Kaushal, deputy commissioner, East Singhbhum, and Anoop T Mathew, SSP, East Singhbhum, participated in Yoga session held at Gopal Maidan to mark International Yoga Day. The district administration organised the event.

About 4,000 fitness freaks took part in it while last year 2,000 people participated.

The second edition of the International Yoga Day showed overwhelming response which was evident with rise in number of participants at almost all locations which witness yoga asanas today.

The main function was held at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur while functions which also had huge participation were held at JRD Tata Sports Complex (by Tata Steel), Tulsi Bhawan ( by CII), Jamshedpur Cooperative College ground (by NCC cadets), Agrico ground (by Basti Vikash Samity and in various educational institutions.�

There was a cultural program after the yoga session at Gopal Maidan, the venue of the main function.

Before the commencement of the Yoga asanas the Jamshedpur MP who was the chief guest of the function to mark International Yoga Day supported the need to take immediate initiative on making yoga mandatory in school as this would open job opportunities as yoga instructors for people like us).

A participant said that Yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body thought and action, restraint and fulfillment, harmony between man and nature, a holistic approach to health and well-being.

It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with youself, the world and the nature.

Around 30�odd members of the Yogpeeth were constantly roaming around the venue helping participants in performing asanas in right posture.

Altogether, 27 asanas were performed between 7 am to 7.50 am with Bharat Swabhiman Trust East Singhbhum district in-charge Ajay Kumar Jha exhibiting the asanas with four other members of the Patanjali Yogpeeth on the dais.

The three main focuses of Hatha yoga (exercise, breathing, and meditation) make it beneficial to those suffering from heart disease, back pain, schizophrenia, stress and it is also useful for cancer patients to decrease depression, insomnia, pain, and fatigue and to increase anxiety control.

Yoga has brought remarkable lifestyle changes in the practitioners.Yoga can be many things to many people. Let us take a step together to discover our �Yoga Way of Life!�

21 June was declared as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 2014.

The declaration came after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on 27 September 2014.

This initiative found support from many global leaders from more than 177 countries co-sponsoring the resolution.
