Jamshedpur, March 29: Twenty four students of Rajendra Vidyalaya (RV) in the city have been detained in Class 11 after the final terminal results were announced recently.
Of these, 13 students are from science section, while the remaining 11 students are from commerce section. They were detained as they failed to score the required marks to get promotion.
On Monday, students along with their parents under the banner of Jamshedpur Abhibhawak Sangh submitted a memorandum to DC against the school management and demanded to help promote the students as it might affect their future.
�The question is what kind of education the school is imparting that not one or two, but 24 students have failed.
If the students were not performing well then why did the school not inform the same to their parents? The school can�t get away just by citing the poor results of the students,� said Umesh Kumar, president of Jamshedpur Abhibhawak Sangh.
He further said that there are four sections of Slass 11 in Rajendra Vidyalaya and each section consists of around 47 students.
Kumar alleged that school management and teachers have erected a wall of discrimination on the merit of a student and all the good students and those who take tuitions from school teachers have been kept in section C.
All the detained students have scored 5 to 7 marks less than the required pass marks, Kumar added.
A parent of the detained student accused the school management of increasing the pass marks from 30 to 40, which led to the issue and several students failed. Sangh has appealed the DC to help fix the pass marks at 30 and conduct re-test of the subjects in which students failed.
On the other hand, principal of Rajendra Vidyalaya PV Sahay said teachers of the school don�t have any hostility towards any of the failed students. �The students were informed about the exam date much earlier but at that time the students didn�t studied.
Apart from taking out the average if the students would have passed in the last term only they would have been promoted but they have not performed up to the mark and by any means they are not liable to pass,� added Sahay.
